I wasn't able to attend but I heard from numerous sources that the first Service-now.com New York City Local User Group meeting was a great success.
More than 30 participants were in attendance to hear and discuss presentations on modern IT service management. Presenters included good folks from JBC Group, Artio Global Investors, AllianceBernstein and Service-now.com.
Thank you to Ellen and CBS for hosting the event. Let's start planning the next one.
Yesterday HP sent a note to their Service Desk customer base extending the Service Desk end of support date by two years. In a nutshell the letter said that HP will “extend the end of support date of Service Desk 4.5 and 5.1 by two years, to December 31, 2012.” It also tells Service Desk customers that they will now have “more time to stabilize their businesses and IT so that they can realize the greatest return on investment when they transition to Service Manager.”
Yesterday BMC announced they decided to try and build their very first IT service desk application. Since they purchased their first two service desk apps, we consider Service Desk Express on Force.com to be the first ITSM app they will build all on their very own. Wait a tick, BMC is building this app on Force.com and it seems Salesforce.com is doing all the heavy lifting. So they have a little help from a friend.

This is kind of a cop out, and does not replace a regular Service-now.com user group meeting, but I thought many of the members of the Service-now.com Southern California user group would be interested in the details of the upcoming itSMF San Diego LIG. Service-now.com will be co-presenting with Alliant Insurance, a Service-now.com customer. Additional details and a registration link are provided below.
Hi everybody,
Windows IT Pro opened the nomination period for its Community Choice Awards. If you like Service-now.com please vote for us in the category of "Best Cloud Computing/SaaS Product or Service".
If you don't like Service-now.com please tell me why in the comments below.
The process takes about 30 seconds if you only vote for Service-now.com. If you decide to vote for your other favorite products in other categories it will take a little bit longer. Regardless, it's easy.
This may seem counterintuitive, but I think Oracle's Larry Ellison gets enterprise SaaS, while Gartner is still struggling with the concept.
This week Gartner announced, "A recent survey...has revealed that although SaaS is more mainstream and less controversial than ever before, many customers are underwhelmed by their current experience of it and sense that SaaS is not quite the panacea it often promised to be."
Chris Dancy of ServiceSphere took some serious time to put together this comprehensive post SaaS 3.0 and ITSM, Match Made in Heaven!! A couple of the legit SaaS vendors (Service-now.com and Beetil) have taken time to add commentary, including a strong post from Service-now.com partner Michel at Aspediens.
So the Office of Government Commerce (OGC), official keepers of ITIL, are now promoting a new ITIL product certification program. Matt Stansberry of TechTarget does a good job covering some of the nuances of the new certification scheme, and nobody was surprised to see BMC land the first "ITIL-compliant badge".
itSMF just opened nominations for its 2009 Awards. If you have a cool ITSM project that deserves attention, please let us know. We'd be happy to help create a submission and nominate your company for the Project of the Year award.
Here are the details. Please contact me if you'd like our help.
Thanks,
Rhett
